Houjicha is made by baking or oven roasting harvested Sencha. The result is a darker, more roasted brew. Baking tea lowers the caffeine and tannin content and makes Houjicha comparable to decaffeinated teas. It is said to have some relaxing effects on the body and is traditionally enjoyed during meals or before bed. This batch comes from Kagoshima, Japan.
