Tea tongs are usually used in the gongfu tea ceremony, a traditional Chinese tea ceremony that involves the ritual preparation and presentation of tea to guests. The tongs are a tool used to pick up the small tea cups when rinsing with hot water or to pick out stray tea leaves that manage to escape the tea pot.
These tongs have a simple design carved from spotted bamboo. It features a bamboo ridge at the top and has 3 parallel lines carved on the inside of each end for grip.
